Ryan William Cashion
May 15, 1965 to November 20, 2024

Known as “a really nice guy” and a wonderful conversationalist, Ryan William Cashion passed away peacefully on November 20th at 5:08 PM in the Sacre Coeur Hospital in Montreal. Recognizing his own failing health, he passed on his own terms with his sister Kara and brother Tyler by his side. He is also deeply missed by his sister-in-law Louise Cashion, brother-in-law Brent McGillis and his two nephews Hayden Cashion and Nolan Cashion. Ryan was predeceased by his mother Joan McVichie and father William Joseph Cashion.

Having played football in University, Ryan was an avid sports fan. He followed everything from Premier League Football (soccer) to hockey, football, baseball and the Olympics. Likewise, he was always on top of current affairs at the municipal, provincial, federal and international levels. He knew what was going on in the world and this became great fodder for his many discussions with family, friends and acquaintances. He was an amazing conversationalist and that included being a great listener. He was always open to the opinions, thoughts and ideas of others. This is how he broadened his own mind and understanding of the world.

Ryan was a people person. People were his hobby, profession and passion. He loved helping people, speaking with people and listening to people. This propelled his success in many ways including in the hotel industry where he was chosen to be the Night Manager at Le Germain Hotel in Montreal. He was also a prolific writer with a special talent to write touching condolences with detailed memories to those that had lost loved ones. When advised of Ryan’s passing, the universal response from his friends and acquaintances was that “he was such a nice man”. Even the amazing ICU staff at the Sacre Coeur Hospital, who endeavoured for the past 4 months to help him regain his health, were touched by his appreciation, kindness and easy manner. Ryan touched the hearts of all who had the good fortune to know him. He made the world a better place.

Ryan was 59 Years Old.

Announcements for Life Celebrations in Montreal and Ottawa will be forthcoming in 2025.

Ryan and I first became friends in 1977 after I had moved to Ottawa from Montreal. We went to school together, played on the same football team and hung out doing everything from playing gin rummy, hockey at the outdoor rink and Intellivision video game competitions. He was passionate, highly intelligent both in mathematics and writing and loved people. We had a plethora of experiences together over the last 46 years. I will miss my buddy. My love and condolences go out his sister, brother and their families.
